National Institute of Drugs Statistics

According to the National Institute of Drugs, the increase in opiates painkillers has increased by 80% in the United States. While the painkiller hydrocodone has increased by 90% in the past few years.

When Chronic Pain Becomes an Addiction

Often time’s people who suffer from chronic pain are prescribed strong medication painkillers such as opiates and hydrocodone. Before the pain is gone they discover they have another problem they are now addicted to the painkillers.

When the Addiction Gets out of Control

People often find themselves going to three even four different doctors for their painkiller prescriptions. This act of course can lead to jail time. That is exactly what is happening all across the United States.

Several pharmacies are now participating in a program to help put an end to prescription pain medication abuse. The patient’s information is put into a national database. If a person fills a prescription at one pharmacy on Monday and shows up at another pharmacy on Wednesday for the same prescription prescribed by a different doctor not only is the prescription not filled but a report is filled and the doctors are both notified.
