Corey Haim was in full teen-idol mode in 1988, swamped with letters from adoring young female fans and his face on the covers of teen magazines. His growing list of credits included "Lucas" and the teenage vampire movie "The Lost Boys." Haim, who struggled with drug addiction during a career that fell far short of legendary status despite early reviews that praised his acting ability, died Wednesday morning, according to a Los Angeles County coroner's spokeswoman. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
President Barack Obama is in overall "excellent health" but still struggles with a smoking habit, his doctors said in a report after Obama had a routine medical exam on Sunday. A team of doctors led by Dr. Jeffrey Kuhlman, the chief White House physician, found Obama to be "fit for duty" and said he was likely to remain so for the rest of his presidency. But the doctors recommended that he continue his "smoking cessation efforts" and "moderation in alcohol intake" and also that he change his diet to bring down a cholesterol level that is borderline high.
Miguel Cabrera says he doesn't have a problem with alcohol. He was concerned enough about his alcohol intake, however, that he spent much of the offseason in a treatment program and meeting with a counselor. "I'm comfortable talking about everything, because I think you can't hide it,'' Cabrera said Monday before the Tigers worked out. "Someday it's going to come out.''
Charlie Sheen’s wife Brooke Mueller has been hiding her addiction to crack and her alcoholism for months. Both Sheen and Mueller are in rehab after months of resisting going in, with their representatives denying reports that they have substance abuse problems. RadarOnline.com was first to report that Mueller has been smoking crack and was in rehab previously for crack addiction. We’ve also learned that she’s been in rehab more than FIVE TIMES and has been hiding her addiction to crack and her alcoholism from people close to her for months.

Colin Farrell on giving up alcohol

In his first major interview for five years, actor Colin Farrell tells Live how he cast off his attachment to alcohol, fell for a mermaid - and the uncanny similarities between his old life and his new film Ondine. 'Quitting booze was hard initially. Drinking was all I had known in my adult life,' Farrell says of his decision to go into rehab. A serial seducer, he was linked to a string of famous women, from Demi Moore to Britney Spears to Liverpudlian actress Amelia Warner (with whom he had an impulsive four-month marriage in 2001) - and also addicted to alcohol.
When Charlie Sheen checked himself into an in-patient treatment facility this week, friends insisted it was a preventative measure for the star, who is said to be worried about sliding back into abusive habits after recent marital stress with wife Brooke Mueller. But a pricey stint in an inpatient treatment facility may not be very effective for patients like Sheen, who has reportedly been to rehab for substance abuse in the past, experts say.
Chris Del Bosco was wasted. Again. At lunch. Heather Centurioni didn't have to count the drinks her little brother was putting away to feel the familiar fear. He had shown up to visit in Los Angeles looking as bad as she'd seen him. While she and her husband, Steve, went to work, he sat around day after day and drank and drank. That was four years ago. Today, Del Bosco races for Canada in ski cross – the new risk-filled, chaotic Olympic sport. Ranked No. 3 in the World Cup standings, he is a contender to win gold at the Vancouver Games.

Is Bode Miller an Alcoholic?

Bode Miller won a bronze medal for the United States in downhill skiing... The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism has announced that "Alcoholism Isn't What It Used to Be."  They meant their research shows that most alcoholics don't go to AA or to treatment, but that most recover anyway - while continuing to drink.  And Miller is the poster boy for this narrative. He veered into excessive, unhealthy drinking - perhaps he would have qualified for a diagnosis of alcoholism (or "dependence").
Last night on Celebrity Rehab 3, I couldn’t wait to see if Tom Sizemore would really leave rehab again.  A visit from his girlfriend Monroe triggered an attack from his drug addicted demons.  Tom was ready to bounce but thankfully Monroe convinced him to stay.  She said that she would admit herself to rehab too.  Yeah Monroe and Tom! In “Process Group”, Dr. Drew and the rehab techs schooled the patients on the topic of “denial”.  An interesting note made by Drew was that addiction is the only disease that you have to convince people that they have.
Controversial pop star Lady Gaga has revealed that she was so addicted to cocaine she believed it would kill her. The singer told how she would lock herself in her room snorting "bags and bags" of the drug to get inspiration for her music. She also confessed that she got dangerously high on LSD as she strove to emulate her pop heroes, the News of the World newspaper in the UK reports.
