Painkiller Addiction Symptoms

pills.jpg

Addiction to painkillers is a growing problem in the United States, as many doctors are quick to prescribe drugs for even the mildest of pain, and patients don't know when to stop taking them.

There are symptoms to look out for to determine if you or a loved one are becoming addicted to painkillers.

Here are some of them, according to Livestrong.com:

Drug Cravings
If you find yourself craving your painkilling drugs even if the pain is not severe or even gone, then you might be addicted.

Withdrawal
If you can't get your hand on drugs, you could suffer withdrawal symptoms. They include bone aches, chills, insomnia, diarrhea, vomiting, involuntary leg movements, restlessness and muscle pain.

Physical Signs
Livestrong.com writes:
Many times, painkiller addicts do not recognize the signs of their addiction until their behavior is pointed out to them. Painkillers can cause slurred speech and depression that they often attribute to other causes. Other physical symptoms of painkiller addiction include the inability to concentrate, lack of coordination and dizziness.

Behavior
Painkiller addicts are likely to see a change in their behavior. They may start skipping school or work. They treat friends and family differently. Their energy level dips drastically. Often times they have money problems, as all of their money is going to feed their habit.
